Bikini Beach - This chart combines the tradition of big band jazz with the energy of 60's rhythm
and blues. Based on an AABA "blues with a bridge" structure, there are solos for tenor and baritone
saxes as well as electric guitar. Also featured are the sax section in a "Bo Diddley" soli and lead
trumpet with a screech solo over the ensemble shout section. Strong 1st and 2nd trumpets are recommended.
Several short drum solos fill in the spaces and propel the chart from the beginning to the final chord.

Chanteuse - A jazz ballad featuring alto with echoes of Johnny Hodges and the Ellington Band. Also
showcased is a harmon mute trumpet solo. The ensemble swells in the shout chorus to reestablish the

Maxwell D. Cat - This is a medium swing chart in the Nestico/Basie style which features piano and
trumpet solos as well as a bari sax solo. The lead trumpet range extends to a high "D" while the bass
bone drops to a pedal "G". Most of all, it should be kept in mind while rehearsing and performing "Maxwell"

Morning Glory - A high-energy, hard-driving fusion chart that musically unites big band jazz and
rock. Excellent feature for brasses with solos for the first trombone and fifth trumpet. The rhythm
sections sustain a "Weather Report" feeling at a temp of 184. Solos for fifth trumpet and second tenor
are based on lydian dominant and mixolydian modes and whole tone scales. Lead trumpet range extends
to "F". An eight bar stop time section showcases a reed and brass section fugue that leads into an explosive

Once There Was - A beautiful, easy ballad featuring a variety of ensemble and soslo textures with
extended solos for baritone sax and trumpet. Saxes double flutes to add color. Lead trumpet written

Overdrive - A contemporary, hard bop-swing chart with solos for tenor, piano or guitar. The up-tempo
groove is based on suspended and pentatonic harmonies with a strong sax solo and shout chorus building

The Pepper Mill - Contemporary bebop "blues with a bridge" which features alto, bari and ddrums with
open solos as well as plenty of challenging ensemble work. Trumpet range written to a "F". Intro leads
to head and solos into an open drum solo. Ensemble builds out of the drum solo to a shout chorus and

Quiet Time - A ballad that features baritone sax on the melody and an improvised solo during a double-time
section. It should be noted that this is not so much a feature chart as an overall composition in which

W.F.O. - a high-energy, fast bebop chart featuring solos for guitar and tenor sax. After the opening
statement, a tenor sax solo leads to a sax soli which, in turn, leads to a guitar solo. Many ensemble
passages lead to an eight bar drum solo and full ensemble shout chorus. The surprise ending is a good
